Friday Rachael and Dylan both had appointments to see their new doctor. We switched insurance companies the first of the year. They were just well check up appointments so their new doctor could meet them and get to know them. When the nurse was done with the weighing, measuring and the the blood pressure, she handed them each a hospital gown to wear instead of their clothes. Poor Dylan, the look on his face when the nurse left the room. He looked at me and asked if he was getting surgery? They never had to wear those gowns before when they went to see their other doctor. It was the cutest thing seeing his concerned look on his face.
When the doctor came in I told her about his concern and she very nicely explained to him that she was just going to do a whole lot of boring talk with mom and then with him and some more boring talk with mom. Then she told him that she was going to check him out from head to toe to make sure he's growing the way he should be. She made him feel much better after that. She did find a questionable mole behind his ear so she referred him to see the Dermatologist. She said it's probably nothing, but just to be safe and she told him to always wear sunscreen when he's playing outside.
Now it was Rachael's turn. Rachael told the doctor about how she gets chest pains when she runs around too much. She doesn't get them all the time, but when she does get them, they hurt. The doctor checked her out and sent her across the hall for X-rays and an EKG. She was afraid of it hurting so I explained that they're just taking a picture of her chest. She asked the doctor if she could have a copy to show all of her friends! The EKG was just a bunch of stickers and wires stuck all over her.
We took the results back to the nurse and they each got their second dose of the chicken pox vaccine. When the doctor came back in she said she looked at the test results and she didn't see anything wrong but that she was sending them to the specialist for a second look. I really like their new doctor a lot and so do the kids. On the way home, we stopped and they got milkshakes from Dairy Queen.
